It combines effortlessly with the lightning fast sports portion of the game called the "rites", which turns out to be immaculately balanced with a great variety of choices and strategies, which comes as a positive surprise for its unique format. The visual novel style part of the game is entertaining enough on its own, but most of all perfectly embedded into the whole experience. As unique as the many characters are, they still receive all the detail they deserve. But Pyre comes with a bigger scope than its predecessors, dealing with a much larger cast. Those who played Bastion and Transistor will already expect the beautifully stylised graphics, award-worthy soundtrack, and lovely narration. For those willing to look behind genre terms and to enjoy the experience however, it turns into an amazing experience. Visual novel and action-oriented fantasy sports game are neither the most popular on their own nor would one think of them to blend easily. The entry hurdle for players will be the unusual combination of genres.
